History

The locomotive was produced in the years 1963–1965 in three types, 59E1, 59E2 and 59E3. 168 engines were built in those series.[1]

Since it was a slight modification of Class E669.1, no prototype was built. Currently the whole series is being systematically withdrawn in the Czech Republic with last units used in Ostrava. In Slovakia, the whole series has been withdrawn on 31.3.2006. Withdrawn locomotives are usually rented or sold to various Polish private operators.[2][3]
